2015 Maryland Junior Classical League Convention
The LHS Latin club wrapped up the 2015- 2016 school year by attending the MDJCL convention, hosted at the Country School in Easton, MD. Alexandria Hudson, Gia Haemmerle, Kyla Dungan, and Hugh Norko all came to participate in the various ludi, academic tests, and to sell their t- shirt at the bazaar. Ms. Carter also came to help with t- shirt selling and to encourage their success.
At this year’s MDJCL convention, we joined many Latin students from different chapters of the Junior Classical League within the state of Maryland. Other schools attending the event included Montgomery Blair, Loyola Blakefield, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Our Secretary, Alexandria Hudson, won 1st place on the dramatic interpretation, 1st place on the phrases and expressions academic test, and 1st place on the derivatives academic test.
Our former President, Hugh Norko, placed 1st on advanced Latin literature, 3rd on the mythology academic test, and 3rd on the derivatives academic test.
Our t- shirt designer, Kyla Dungan, placed 1st on the derivatives academic test and 3rd on the mythology academic test.
Our vice president, Gia Haemmerle, placed 2nd on the phrases and expressions academic test and 3rd on the history of the Monarch and Empire academic test.
Our t- shirt sold very well at this years state convention. We sold nearly 20 shirts with our recent design, and 10 of our old t- shirt design from last year.
Looking ahead, we have dates for several competitions this fall, and we’ll be hosting our annual Certamen Saturnalium on December 10th.
